
Bowling Closes Out Track Kat Klash in Houston with Sixth-Place Finish

Ladyjacks battle trio of top-five opponents in Sunday’s bracket play, complete tournament with 13,483 total pins
HOUSTON, Texas – Facing three opponents ranked among the top five programs in the country during Sunday's bracket play, the SFA bowling team took home sixth place among 17 total teams at Sam Houston State's Track Kat Klash in Houston. The Ladyjacks started strong but were narrowly defeated 4-3 in their first two Baker matches of the day inside Emerald Lanes.
Matching up against third-seeded and second-ranked McKendree University in the opening round Sunday, SFA, who is ranked No. 6 in the nation and was seeded fourth, grabbed a 2-0 lead in the match after earning 226-150 and 197-176 game wins. The Bearcats edged the Ladyjacks 216-214 in game three before SFA took a 3-1 lead in the match after a convincing 230-159 game four victory. However, McKendree stormed back to earn a 206-160 game five win and narrowly defeat the Ladyjacks 198-197 in game six and 199-191 in a decisive game seven.
Taking on fifth-ranked and sixth-seeded Arkansas State in the second round, SFA found itself trailing 3-1 before making a valiant comeback effort. The Ladyjacks earned a one-pin 222-221 game five win and bowled an impressive 268 in game six to tie the match up at 3-3. In the deciding game seven, the Red Wolves totaled 234 pins compared 190 by SFA to claim the match.
Bowling against fourth-ranked and eighth-seeded Sam Houston State in the fifth-place match, the Ladyjacks took a 1-0 lead with a 185-183 game one win. From there, the tournament host Bearkats rattled off four consecutive game wins for a 4-1 victory, including a one-pin 209-208 game four.
SFA closed out the tournament with a pinfall total of 13,483 and a 6-7 record over the weekend as McKendree won the Track Kat Klash title with a 4-1 win over top-seeded and third-ranked Nebraska. Arkansas State earned third-place honors after defeating second-seeded and seventh-ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore 4-1.
Seven Ladyjacks were in action Sunday as SFA started freshman Carlene Beyer, sophomores Dakota Faichnie and Sarah Gill and seniors Paige Beeney and Dakotah Hazlewood against the Bearcats, followed by sophomore Sarah Voiers, junior Megan Eaglehouse, Gill, Beeney and Hazlewood against Arkansas State and Voiers, Faichnie, Gill, Beeney and Hazlewood against the Bearkats of Sam Houston State.
