NACOGDOCHES, Texas - In a release issued Thursday afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), SFA sophomore safety Gavin Roland was selected as Google Cloud Academic All-District® Honoree.
The second-year man out of League City, Texas, earned a spot on the All-District 7 First Team by way of his 4.0 GPA in biology. By getting placed on the first team, Roland will advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. Those winners will be voted on later in the month of November and announced early in the month of December.
So far in his second season in Lumberjack colors, Roland has appeared in all nine of the 'Jacks' contests. In that time, he has accumulated 16 total tackles - 11 of which were solo stops. In the 93rd annual Battle of the Piney Woods against longtime rival Sam Houston State, Roland posted the first fumble recovery of his collegiate career.
Roland joins seven other Southland Conference student-athletes on the list of Google Cloud Academic All-District honorees. Sixty of the honorees from across the ranks of NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and the NAIA are in possession of perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Roland and the rest of the 'Jacks look to end their 2018 campaign on a high note Thursday night at Homer Bryce Stadium as they welcome age-old Louisiana adversary Northwestern State to the oldest town in Texas. The Demons have possession of Chief Caddo - the largest traveling trophy in all of sports - and SFA is hoping to return the chief to his rightful state.
