
Bowling Claims Trio of Victories, Defeats Two National-Ranked Opponents Saturday

Ladyjacks earn trio of traditional team match wins on second day of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic, tack on 4,863 pins to pinfall total
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – On the second day of competition at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Warhawk Classic, the SFA bowling team picked up a trio of traditional team match victories and defeated a pair of nationally-ranked opponents. The sixth-ranked Ladyjacks added an additional 4,863 pins to their pinfall total Saturday and sit in eighth place among 18 teams with a 5-5 record and 9,838 cumulative pins.
Second-ranked McKendree University holds the top spot entering the final day of competition with a pinfall total of 10,588 and a 9-1 record, while No. 5 Arkansas State is in second place with 10,565 total pins and an 8-2 mark. Third-ranked Nebraska owns a pinfall total of 10,376 and a 7-3 record to sit in third place.
After a 993-950 setback against tournament host and No. 21 ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater to begin the day, despite collecting a 243 game from senior Paige Beeney, SFA pulled out a 50-pin 893-835 triumph over Elmhurst College. Sophomore Sarah Voiers notched a game of 206 as Beeney added a 198 in the match.
The Ladyjacks followed up their second match of the day with an impressive performance against 18th-ranked Central Missouri. SFA racked up 1,008 pins in the match, compared to 982 by Central Missouri, with Voiers posting her second-straight 200-pin game at 208 and senior Dakotah Hazlewood claiming a 215. Beeney bowled her second game over 230 for the day by rolling a 237.
Taking on 19th-ranked LIU Brooklyn in their fourth match Saturday, the Ladyjacks got a match-high 225 from Dakotah Hazlewood and games of 192 from both junior Megan Eaglehouse and Voiers but it wasn't enough as SFA came 109 pins short (1,090-981). SFA finished off the day with its finest performance of the afternoon, defeating No. 15 Adelphi 1,021-848. Freshman Carlene Beyer contributed a game of 211 and Beeney a 219, while sophomore Sarah Gill bowled a match-high game of 241.
Beeney finished Saturday's traditional team matches 11th among 106 total bowlers after averaging a 217 and knocking down 1,085 total pins. Beyer accumulated 915 total pins and averaged a 183 in the five traditional team matches to finish 56th, while Voiers tallied 788 pins in four matches and Hazlewood 758.
Nebraska's Allison Morris earned top honors among all bowlers with a 238.8 game average and a pinfall total of 1,194. Taylor Davis of Arkansas State claimed 1,177 total pins and averaged a 235.4 in the five traditional team games for runner-up accolades, while Vanderbilt's Kristin Quah owned 1,132 total pins and held a 226.4 average.
The three-day Warhawk Classic will conclude Sunday with three rounds of best 4-of-7 bracket play Baker matches beginning at 8:30 a.m. CST.
Based on teams' pinfall total from the first two days of competition, the Ladyjacks earned the No. 8 seed for Sunday's bracket play and will take on seventh-seeded and 22nd-ranked Maryville University in the opening round. Vying for a fifth-place finish, SFA will be matched up with the winner of sixth-seeded and top-ranked Vanderbilt and fifth-seeded and 21st-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater in Sunday's second round should the Ladyjacks earn a first-round victory.
