Men’s Golf Improves Score by 10 Strokes in Final Round of Little Rock Invitational

‘Jacks shoot a 4-over 292 in third round, senior Angelo Leyvani ties for 20th for fourth top-20 finish of season
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – After Monday evening's second round was halted due to darkness, the Stephen F. Austin men's golf team completed play Tuesday afternoon at the Little Rock Invitational in Arkansas. The Lumberjacks improved their team score by 10 strokes in the third round, shooting a 4-over 292 to finish the highly-competitive 17-team tournament held on the Bear Den Course at the Chenal Country Club with a three-day total of 34-over 898.
Improving its score each round of the event, SFA placed ahead of fellow Southland Conference members Abilene Christian (52-over 916), Houston Baptist (54-over 918) and Central Arkansas (63-over 927).
Senior Angelo Leyvani continued his blistering start to the season with his fourth top-20 finish of the fall, tying for 20th among 90 total golfers. After shooting a 3-over 75 in Monday's opening round, Leyvani completed the second round Tuesday morning with a 1-over 73 and posted an even-par 72 on the final 18 holes Tuesday afternoon to hold a 4-over 220.
Junior Jake Hendrix shot a 2-over 74 in the third round to tie for 38th, owning a three-round score of 8-over 224 across the two days of play. Sophomore Midland College transfer Justin Benson and sophomore Steven Fabik both tied for 46th after chipping in round three scores of 1-over 73 and closing out the tournament with 11-over 227 totals.
Freshman Isiah Henderson (22-over 238) rounded out the 'Jacks as UNLV's Harry Hall won the individual title shooting a 6-under 210 across the three rounds. Illinois State's Trent Wallace and Arkansas State's Matthew Cole tied for second three strokes off of the lead, each carding scores of 3-under 213.
Arkansas State, who is ranked 19th nationally according to Golfstat.com, claimed the team title with a 1-under 863, while 23rd-ranked UNLV (even-par 864) earned runner-up honors one stroke behind. Illinois State took home third place at 1-over 865.

The 'Jacks will take the remainder of the fall and winter off from competition before returning to tournament play for their spring championship season. To begin 2019, SFA will head to Patterson, Louisiana, Feb. 18-19 for Nicholls' Atchafalaya Intercollegiate held at the Atchafalaya Golf Course.
