Ladyjacks to take on eight-team tournament field Monday and Tuesday in Mansfield, Texas
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – After its second three-week break from competition this fall, the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team will be back in action this week at the UT Arlington Invitational in Mansfield, Texas, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 22-23.
The Format
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will get underway Monday with the opening two rounds of play, 36 continuous holes, followed by the third and final round Tuesday morning. Both days of competition will begin at 8:30 a.m. CST with a shotgun start.
The Course
The UT Arlington Invitational will be held on the Pecan Course at Walnut Creek Country Club, a par-71 course comprised of 6,015-yards of green. The Walnut Creek Country Club was named one of the best country clubs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by Avid Golfer in 2011, 2013 and 2014 and was tabbed as the most affordable 36-hole club by Avid Golfer in 2017.
The Tournament Field
In addition to individual competitors from the Big 12 Conference's Kansas State, the tournament's field will feature a total of eight teams, including two fellow Southland Conference members in the University of the Incarnate Word and Sam Houston State. Event host UT Arlington, Arkansas State, Little Rock, South Alabama and Southern Utah will also be competing over the two days.
The Lineup
The Ladyjacks' lineup will feature seniors Erica Lautensack and Jamee Jorgensen, in addition to junior Paola Cortes, freshman Zayda Cedillo and sophomore Kelly Yang. Cedillo will be making her first appearance in SFA's lineup after competing as an individual at the season-opening ORU Lady Maxwell Invitational. Junior Alexandra Batista and sophomore Alexis Szewczyk will both be playing the tournament's field as individuals.
Tee Times
Monday's opening round tee time is 8:30 a.m. as the Ladyjacks are paired with UIW and individual golfers from Kansas State and Southern Utah. Lautensack will tee off from hole 11, while Jorgensen will start on hole 12, Cortes off of hole 12, Cedillo hole 14 and Yang hole 15. Last Time on the Links
SFA placed eighth out of 14 teams at Sam Houston State's Bearkat Invitational (Oct. 1-2) in Magnolia, Texas, to begin the month as Lautensack turned in her second top-10 and third consecutive top-15 finish of the fall. She tied for 10th among 75 total golfers, carding an 8-over 224 across the three rounds. Szewczyk and Batista each placed within the top 40 as the Ladyjacks shot a 64-over 928 as a team.
