
SFA Track and Field Finishes Competition at Red Raider Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Texas Tech Red Raider Invitational on Friday, and were buoyed by some strong individual performances there from all groups that competed.
In the running events, SFA made a strong showing from the shortest sprints all the way up to the distance runs. Most impressive among them was a first place finish by Drake Murphy in the 800m with a time of 1:55.37, while the women placed three finishers inside the top eight in the 800m with LaSean Davis in second (2:15.31), Madison Compass in fifth (2:18.68) and Shania Ford in eighth (2:23.14). Murphy also ran a leg of the men's 4x400 relay that finished fifth with a time of 3:17.49 and included teammates Payton Davis, Kerry Gleason and Tedrick Hawkins.
Running in the 60m hurdles, Gleason qualified for the events finals with a fourth place finish (8.20), along with teammate Jordan Washington at fifth (8.32). Gleason did not run the finals of the event, but Washington did, and placed sixth (8.24). Tedrick Hawkins also ran in the 200m, finishing fourth with a time of 21.45 to tie his personal best. The fourth member of the 4x400 relay, Payton Davis also placed eighth in the 400m, running a time of 48.52.
A trio of Ladyjacks each finished in the top eight in the 600y, with Tiffany Williams leading the way with a third place finish (1:25.29). Allison Compass placed fifth in the event with a time of 1:26.96, followed by Kadrienne Sanders in eighth with a time of 1:29.19.
In the distance events, SFA had a pair of Ladyjacks place in the mile in Kelsey Ramirez (fourth, 5:13.33) and Christina Hernandez (sixth, 5:13.54), while Quinlin McGregor ran unattached and placed fourth in the men's mile with a time of 4:40.10, and John Shirk placed sixth with a time of 4:47.73. The Lumberjacks then dominated the men's 3000m race, with four runners placing in the top eight. Erick Rotich finished third at 8:49.21, followed by Caleb Pickett in fourth (9:00.68), Larry Deramus in sixth (9:04.38) and Titus Kiplagat in ninth with a time of 9:07.85. Making their own mark in the 3000m on the women's side were Claire Crone in fourth (10:28.31), Brittany Innis in sixth (10:43.55) and Samantha Ottman in eighth (10:50.51).
Transitioning over to the field events, SFA held its own in the throws and jumps. Antonio Ruiz led the way in the pole vault, placing second with a mark of 5.22m (17'-1.5"), while women's vaulters Kaylee Bizzell and Dakota Mayr placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with a mark of 3.77m (12'-4.5"). In the high jump, Noah Berney placed second with a mark of 1.96m (6'5"), while Denzel Green placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 7.03m (23'.25"). Placing seventh in the triple jump for the women was Kariyah Lanehart, who jumped for a mark of 11.61m (38'-1.25". in the throws, Kevin Steward placed fifth in the men's shot put with a mark of 15.62m (51'-3"), while Trenton Bridges was seventh with a distance of 17.03m (52'.7.25")
