FRISCO, Texas -- A strong offensive showing from midfielder Hanna Barker lifted her team to a win over the weekend, and on Tuesday afternoon she was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, per a release from the conference office. The senior from Farmers Branch, Texas had a hand in both goals scored in SFA's 2-1 win over Texas State on Sunday, as she scored one goal and assisted on the other to help the Ladyjacks improve to 2-2 on the season.
After netting a goal and an assist in a win over UTSA in Stephen F. Austin's last game, Barker got right back into the scoring column on Sunday, setting up Carli Arthur for a 16-yard strike to open the scoring in the 15th minute of play. After the Bobcats equalized two minutes later, the teams went into the halftime break all tied up at 1-1, but Barker's teammate Madison Hall was fouled in the box in the 53rd minute, earning a penalty kick. Barker sank the shot for her second goal of the season and her sixth point in two games.
Barker led the Ladyjacks with 30 points in the 2016 campaign, as she scored 10 goals and dished out 10 assists. Having already notched two of each, she is once again on pace to be one of the Southland's best offensive players this season. Earning Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week honors were Lamar's Marie Lund and Lauren Lovejoy, respectively.
The Ladyjacks return to action with a pair of road matches at New Mexico State and UTEP this weekend.
