Getting to know Erica Lautensack
Lautensack was one of two 'Jacks to compete in all 33 rounds of golf a season ago as a sophomore, she posted a team-best 76.94 scoring average and led SFA with five rounds of par or better. Her scoring average for the season was the third-lowest in program history as she registered four top-10 finishes and shot a season-low 70 on two occasions. Her freshman year in 2014-15, Lautensack was an All-Southland Conference honorable mention selection after setting a SFA single-season record with a 76.29 scoring average.
Why did you choose to come and play at SFA?
"I chose to come and play at SFA because everyone on the team was so welcoming and everyone acted like they were a family which I loved. They were all best friends and I knew that was the kind of team I wanted to play for."
Who is the most influential person in your life, and why?
"The most influential person in my life is my mom. She is always so supportive of everything I do and she has taught me everything I know."
What are your top three to five values in life?
"Honesty, dedication and patience are my top three values in life. I believe honesty is No. 1 because if nobody can trust you, will not go far in life. Dedication is another very important one because if you are able to dedicate yourself to something and work hard at it, no matter what it is, it shows strength of character. Patience is so important in day-to-day life. If you are patient, you will realize that even though today might not be a good day, things will always get better."
What is your best life lesson learned in college and/or golf?
"The best lesson I ever learned is to never give up. No matter what it is, either in school, golf, or anything else, the outcome will always be better if you try as hard as you can."
What is your dream job that is not practical?
"My dream job would be introducing kids to golf all over the world. I would love to travel all around the world and show kids how great the sport of golf is. I would not make any money doing this and it would cost me so much but I think it would be so fun to teach kids how to play golf."
Who would play you in a movie/TV series?
"If I were in a movie or TV series, I would make my sister take acting lessons so she could play me because she knows me better than anybody."
What is your biggest fear? Is there a story behind it?
"My biggest fear is mascots. I don't know why but those costumes scare me so much. When I was younger my sister had a Winnie the Pooh birthday party so my parents hired somebody to come dressed as Winnie the Pooh and I cried the entire party. I also went to a party at Chuck E. Cheese's and the mouse scared me so much we had to leave early."
What is one thing that no one knows about Erica?
"Something that nobody at SFA knows about me is that I played the viola in orchestra for eight years. I loved it so much and I was in the varsity orchestra all four years of high school."
