NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women's golf team is set to compete in five tournaments this fall as part of the Ladyjacks' non-championship season. The fall slate of events will begin this weekend for the women's golf program as SFA travels to Ardmore, Oklahoma, for the Lady Maxwell Invitational hosted by Oral Roberts University. SFA will take on the Lady Maxwell Invitational starting Friday, Sept. 1, with the three-day tournament running through Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Dornick Hills Country Club. The following week, SFA takes on Sam Houston State's Bearkat Invitational in Huntsville, Texas, held Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 2-3, at the Raven Nest golf course as the first of three tournaments in October. The 'Jacks will compete in the Fred Marx Invitational hosted by the University of Louisiana Monroe at Bayou Desiard Country Club Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 16-17, before wrapping up their fall schedule at the end of the month in Arkansas. In its final tournament of the 2017, SFA will participate in the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's three-day Women's Golf Classic held at Diamante Country Club in Hot Springs Sunday, Oct. 29-Tuesday, Oct. 31.
The 'Jacks return four letter winners from a year ago and welcome two freshman to this season's squad. Senior Texas A&M-Commerce transfer Zoey Daneshfar (Trophy Club, Texas) and redshirt junior Jamee Jorgensen (Boerne, Texas) also return for SFA after having to sit out the 2016-17 season.
Redshirt junior Erica Lautensack (Arlington, Texas) is poised for another strong year after competing in all 33 rounds in 2016-17 and posting a 76.94 scoring average, the third-lowest in program history. Likewise, sophomore Alexandra Batista (Trophy Club, Texas) played in all 33 rounds last season and notched a scoring mark of 77.06 for the year, tying for sixth place individually at the Southland Conference Championship. Sophomore Haleigh Jordan (San Antonio, Texas) took part in 30 events as a true freshman a year ago, finishing with a scoring average of 79.67, while Paola Cortes (Allen, Texas) competed in 24 rounds and owned an 80.00 scoring average for the 2016-17 season.
Ninth-year head coach Trey Schroeder added two high school signees for SFA's 2017-18 campaign who will be able to contribute in their first season. True freshman Alexis Szewczyk from McKinney, Texas, was a four-year letter winner at McKinney Boyd High School and an all-district performer, while Kelly Yang from Sugar Land, Texas, was a member of four state-qualifying teams at Clements High School.
The 'Jacks finished the 2016-17 season with a fifth-place finish at the Southland Conference Championship, posting a team score of 46-over 898. SFA looks to improve upon their results from a year ago after averaging a team score of 308.15 for the season. Recently, coach Schroeder hired Daniel DeLuca as an assistant coach for both the women's and men's programs.
The Lumberjack men's golf team will begin the fall portion of their schedule Monday, Sept. 18, at Louisiana Tech's Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in Ruston, Louisiana.
