A native of Kentucky, DeLuca has been named assistant coach for the men’s and women’s golf programs after Mikkel Bjerch-Anderson left SFA for Texas Tech
Nacogdoches, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head men's and women's golf coach Trey Schroeder announced the hiring of Daniel DeLuca as the Lumberjacks' new assistant golf coach Wednesday afternoon. A native of Lexington, Kentucky, DeLuca comes to SFA from Eastern Kentucky University, where he served as a graduate assistant since August of 2016. DeLuca replaces former assistant golf coach Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen, who departed for Texas Tech earlier this month.
"I am very excited about the addition of Daniel DeLuca to our golf program", Coach Schroeder said about hiring DeLuca. "He not only brings with him coaching and playing experience at our level, but also a great reputation among fellow coaches. Daniel is a young man with great character and work ethic, and that will benefit both programs on and off the course."
DeLuca brings a wealth of golf knowledge to his new role with the 'Jacks after a four-year career as a Colonel at EKU. An Ohio Valley Conference Academic Medal of Honor recipient for holding a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the 2011-12 and 2015-16 academic years, DeLuca was as the head male counselor at US Golf Camps in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, after serving as an intern. While with US Golf Camps, DeLuca was a counselor, instructor and supervisor to 9-18 year-old kids from around the world.
Achieving a spot on the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll every season while on the EKU golf team, DeLuca worked as a pro shop staff member at Idle Hour Country Club and Man O'War Golf, both in Lexington. Previously, DeLuca was a cart and bag boy at the University Club and at Idle Hour Country Club. A member of the National Honor Society of Collegiate Scholars in 2012, DeLuca represented the state of Kentucky in Pebble Beach, California, in 2010 with the First Tee Program.
He is certified by BodiTrack Sports for "Golf Ground Mechanics" and taught the V1 Video Station while at US Golf Camps.
During his time as a graduate assistant for the Colonels, DeLuca assisted with recruiting, coordinating travel plans, running EKU's home tournament and scheduling practices for both the men's and women's programs. He also worked to establish relationships with businesses in the local area of Richmond, Kentucky, promoting EKU golf.
The Lumberjack women's golf team will open up their fall schedule of tournaments in just nine days when they compete in the Lady Maxwell Invitational in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Friday-Sunday, Sept. 1-3. The men's team will begin their fall slate of tournaments Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 18-19, at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in Ruston, Louisiana.
