Batista, Holcomb, Jordan and White among 952 collegiate women's golfers on the 2016-17 list
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Four members of the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team were named Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars following their work in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year.
Freshmen Alexandra Batista and Haleigh Jordan joined seniors Ann Holcomb and Jessie White on the list of 952 women's collegiate golfers from around the nation who saw their names appear on the list when it was unveiled on July 5. Holcomb and White join former teammate Mackenzie Steiner as the only four-time WGCA All-American Scholars in the history of the program.
In order to become a WGCA All-American Scholar, student-athletes must post a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50. SFA's four All-American Scholars are the most in a single season in the history of the program.
Through her first season of competition with the Ladyjacks, Batista was one of only two members of the squad to take part in all 33 rounds and wrapped her collegiate debut campaign with a scoring average of 77.06. In all, Batista posted four top-10 finishes including a career-best sixth-place finish at the Southland Conference Championship after shooting a career-low 7-over 220.
One of only four Ladyjack golfers to play in 10 or more events throughout 2016-17, Jordan concluded her freshman season by ranking fifth on the squad with a scoring average of 79.67. Jordan's low-round score of 72 came at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Invitational (March 13-15) - five months following a career-high 18th-place finish at the UIW Lady Cardinal Invitational where she fired a 234 (79-76-79) through three rounds (Oct. 24-25).
Holcomb took part in eight of the Ladyjacks' tournaments during her freshman season, posting a 79.25 scoring average through 24 rounds. Her career-best showing came at the UIW Lady Cardinal Classic where she finished 14th by shooting a 229 through three rounds.
During her collegiate curtain call, White turned in a team-best 76.10 scoring average while racking up a pair of top-10 finishes through 10 events. At the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational on Oct. 3-5, 2016, White recorded the lowest single-round score in program history by shooting a 67. With that round, she finished as the runner-up at the event.
As a team, the Ladyjacks placed sixth at the Southland Conference Championship and seven players were named to the spring 2017 Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
