NACOGDOCHES, Texas – At the Texas State Bobcat Classic last week, freshman Imani Nave set two new personal bests in the 200m and 100m events. Her performance earned her recognition from the Southland as she was chosen as this week’s Women’s Athlete of the Week presented by Universal Coin & Bullion. The freshman from Tomball was one of the nine SFA athletes that claimed individual titles at the Bobcat Classic. Both of Nave’s finishes helped add points to the women’s team overall second place finish with 178 points.
Nave’s time of 23.42 in the 200m boosted her to the second best in the Southland Conference. She shaved off half a second from her original PR to finish first in the competition. In the 100m, Nave also cut over half a second off her time to finish fourth in the competition. She posted a 11.74 second time, which places her seventh in the league.
The young sprinter was honored along with Josh Hunter from Abilene Christian as the Men’s Athlete of the Week. Other women’s honorable mentions were Hannah McWilliams from A&M-Corpus Christi and Rainy Castaneda from Incarnate Word.
