Ladyjacks' Spring Tournament Set for Saturday in Shelton Gym

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team will be hosting its annual spring tournament Saturday in Shelton Gym. In addition to the Ladyjacks, four other teams including Northwestern State, UT Arlington, Sam Houston State and Panola College will convene inside Shelton Gym for the spring tournament which begins at 11:00 a.m.
SFA will play three matches Saturday and the full schedule for the tournament can be found below. Saturday’s tournament in Shelton Gym represents the culmination of the Ladyjacks’ spring season which began on March 25.
Despite losing 2016 All-Southland Conference First Team middle blocker Justice Walker and fellow senior Shannon Connell, the Ladyjacks return a number of familiar faces as they set their sights on a 2017 Southland Conference regular season crown.
Reigning Southland Conference Freshman of the Year Ann Hollas returns to set up the Ladyjacks’ offense and in the back row the Ladyjacks are led by rising senior and 2016 All-Southland Conference Second Team member Lexus Cain.
In all, over 80 percent of the Ladyjacks’ offense from the 2016 season comes back to the court and in terms of front row defense Danae Daron is back after averaging 1.08 blocks per set through her All-Southland Conference Honorable Mention freshman season.
The 2016 season saw the Ladyjacks post a second-place finish in the Southland Conference standings and advance to the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament. SFA finished with a 20-11 record which included a 12-4 mark in league play, marking the 20th time in Humphreys’ tenure as head coach that the Ladyjacks have posted 20 or more wins in a season.
