
Surratt Named to Southland Conference All-Academic Second Team

Full Southland Conference All-Academic Teams Release
FRISCO, Texas— The 2017 Southland Conference All-Conference Academic teams for men's and women's cross country have been announced, and Stephen F. Austin sophomore Taryn Surratt was named a member of the Second Team in the Monday release from the conference office. With the First and Second Team each comprising of five members, Surratt was recognized as one of the conference's top student-athletes in the classroom as well as being an accomplished runner for the Ladyjacks this fall.
A native of Webster, Texas, Surratt has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA into her sophomore season while majoring in music with a concentration in vocal performance. Additionally, Surratt was one of the Ladyjack's best on the course this fall, capped off by a Top-10 finish at the Southland Conference Championship in Abilene, Texas on October 27.
Surratt marks her first Academic All-Conference honor with Monday's release, and is one of three members of the Academic All-Conference with a perfect 4.00 GPA. SFA, Sam Houston State, Lamar and McNeese each had one honoree, while UIW had a pair of honorees and Abilene Christian had four.
Southland Conference All-Academic Teams are voted upon by a head coach, sports information director and academic/compliance staff member from each school. Student-Athletes of the Year are voted upon by an awards committee which consists of one administrator from each member school. Voting for one's own athletes is not permitted.
