Two SFA soccer players named to All-Region Team
Full United Soccer Coaches Release
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Even though her career at SFA came to a close this fall, Hanna Barker's accolades continue to add up, most recently coming in the form of a First Team Selection by the United Soccer Coaches association. Barker's accolade marks her as the only Southland Conference player on the First Team, per the national release from the conference office on Wednesday. Joining Barker as an All-Region selection is defender Kennedy Rose, who was named to the All-Region Second Team to give SFA two selections to the All-Region teams.
The United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) is made up of soccer coaches from all levels of play, and releases All-Region and All-American awards annually to deserving athletes. In all, the Southland Conference placed nine players on the All-Region Teams, with Lamar (4), McNeese (2) and Houston Baptist (1) also earning selections.
Barker makes her second appearance as an All-Region First Team selection, after being named an NSCAA All-Region First Team selection last year. Rose, another senior that finished her career at SFA this fall, quickly became one of the Southland Conference's premier defenders, and is making her first appearance as an All-Region selection.
Both Rose and Barker played in every game for the Ladyjacks this season, with Barker starting every contest and Rose making starts in 20 of the 21 contests. The duo were each stellar performers in their respective lines of play, helping the Ladyjacks finish in second place in the Southland Conference standings and runner up in the Southland Conference Tournament. Barker's performance on the pitch elicited more than enough notice to garner her Southland Conference Midfielder of the Year for the second straight season, along with a First Team All-Conference selection. She scored nine goals and added six assists, finishing fourth all-time among SFA players in points (83), tied for fourth in goals (29), and second all-time in assists (25).
Rose's contributions on the team were two-fold, as she became a veritable aerial threat for the Ladyjacks on offensive set pieces, racking up two goals and an assist, while also filling the role of SFA's most physical and determined on-ball defender throughout the season. Her stalwart efforts as a defensive linchpin helped the Ladyjacks post the Southland's top defense, allowing the fewest goals (8), the smallest goals-against-average (.72) and the second most shutouts (6). For her efforts, Rose was named as an All-Conference Honorable Mention.
SFA finished the season at 12-8-1 (8-3-0 SLC), and advanced to the Southland Tournament title game for the fourth time in five seasons. In addition to the honor accrued by Rose and Barker, defender Carli Arthurs was selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and is eligible to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American this December.
