United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award Release
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The United Soccer Coaches organization has released their comprehensive list of collegiate soccer programs that earned a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher. A total of 824 soccer teams (286 men, 538 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 academic year. With a total team GPA of 3.43 during the last school year, the Stephen F. Austin women's soccer team earned the award for the eighth straight season, per a release from the national office on Thursday.
SFA was one of eight Southland schools to make the cut, joined by Abilene Christian, Houston Baptist, Lamar, McNeese, Nicholls, Sam Houston State and Texas A & M Corpus Christi.
The Ladyjacks saw three individuals earn Southland Conference All-Academic honors last season, as Brooke Dunnigan and Amanda Doyle were both All-Academic First Team selections, and Lillie Ehlert was named to the Second Team. Furthermore, six members of last season's team (Carli Arthurs, Meghan Corder, Kelly Ann Craig, Lauren Hall, Carolina Orsi, Allyson Smith and Jasmine White) earned perfect 4.00 GPA's, and a total of 20 soccer athletes being named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, which stipulates that an athlete must maintain a 3.00 GPA during their competition season.
