Women’s Golf Ties for 11th at Little Rock Classic to Finish Fall Season

Ladyjacks shoot 37-over 325 in third round of Little Rock Women’s Golf Classic, finish tied for 11th to wrap up fall schedule of tournaments
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – On the third and final day of the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team tied for 11th as the Ladyjacks wrapped up their fall slate of tournaments. SFA shot a 37-over 325 on the third day of play in the 15-team event at the Diamante Country Club to finish with a three-day total of 73-over 937.
Hosted by Little Rock, Missouri State out of the Missouri Valley Conference was the team champion after posting a 14-over 302 in the third round and totaling a 44-over 908. Fellow Southland Conference member Central Arkansas took home runner-up with a 47-over 911, while UTEP placed third after tallying a 49-over 913.
Sophomore Alexandra Batista (Trophy Club, Texas) was the Ladyjacks' highest finisher on the par-72, 6,076-yard, rising three spots with a 5-over 77 in the third round to finish tied for 21st with a score of 14-over 230. Redshirt junior Erica Lautensack (Arlington, Texas) fell 22 spots on the leaderboard with a 12-over 84 Tuesday and a total of 18-over 234.
In 52nd place, true freshman Alexis Szewczyk (McKinney, Texas) recorded a 4-over 76 Monday but could not follow her performance up in the third round. She, likewise, shot a 12-over 84 Tuesday and completed the tournament with a 22-over 238. Sophomore Paola Cortes (Allen, Texas) and redshirt junior Jamee Jorgensen (Boerne, Texas) rounded out SFA, placing 68th and tying for 69th, respectively. Cortes registered a 28-over 244 through the three rounds, while Jorgensen improved her score by eight strokes between the second and third rounds but totaled a 29-over 245 for the tournament.
Missouri State's Verena Gimmy recorded a 1-under 71 Tuesday to claim the individual title with a 4-over 220. Ranked 87th nationally, Jacksonville State's Valentina Giraldo took home second place with a three-day total of 5-over 221 as Sam Houston State's Hannah Alberto was two strokes off the lead at 6-over 222 for third place.
The Little Rock Women's Golf Classic completes a five-tournament fall schedule for SFA. The Ladyjacks saw their best finish at the Sam Houston State's Bearkat Invitational at the beginning of October where SFA placed third with a 58-over 910.

The Ladyjacks will have over three months off from competition before taking to the links once again in mid-February. SFA opens up its spring with the Texas State Invitational in New Braunfels, Texas, Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 12-13.
