Women’s Golf in Ninth Place after First Round at Little Rock Women’s Classic

Ladyjacks post a 17-over 305 Sunday on the opening day of play at the Little Rock Women’s Golf Classic, Alexandra Batista tied for seventh after shooting a 1-over 73
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – After 18 holes of play Sunday at Little Rock's Women's Golf Classic in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team is ninth among 15 teams. Delayed by an hour due to a morning layer of frost on the golf course, the Ladyjacks battled the cold start and shot a 17-over 305.
Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State sits atop the leaderboard after shooting a 10-over 298 as a team, while both Jacksonville State out of the Ohio Valley Conference and Missouri State out of the Missouri Valley Conference tallied a 13-over 301 Sunday to rest tied for second place.
SFA is paced by sophomore Alexandra Batista (Trophy Club, Texas), who is tied for seventh through the first round after recording a 1-over 73 on the par-72, 6,076-yard course. Redshirt juniors Jamee Jorgensen (Boerne, Texas) and Erica Lautensack (Arlington, Texas) sit tied for 29th after each totaling an opening round score 5-over 77.
True freshman Alexis Szewczyk (McKinney, Texas) recorded a 6-over 78 in the first round of play and is tied for 42nd, while sophomore Paola Cortes (Allen, Texas) finished one stroke behind with a 7-over 79 and is tied for 49th.
Four players are tied for third place on the leaderboard after shooting even-par 72's as Louisiana-Monroe's Shani White claimed a 1-under 71 to hold a second-place spot. Sam Houston State's Jenna Phillips leads the tournament after registering a 2-under 70 first round score.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament at the Diamante Country Club will continue tomorrow with a 9 a.m. start. The Ladyjacks are paired with UT Arlington and Utah Valley for Monday's second round as players will tee off from hole No. 10 every 10 minutes starting at 9:50 a.m.
Tuesday's third and final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
