Getting to know Andy Lopez

His fourth-place tie at the tournament topped his seventh-place tie at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate earlier this fall where he shot a career-low 3-under 213. Why did you choose to come and play at SFA?
"I came to play at SFA because of the community. I felt welcomed and everyone has been kind along the way. The coaches are very supportive and encouraging in everything we do. There is no other way than the SFA way."
Who is the most influential person in your life, and why?
"My roommate, Steven, is the most influential person in my life, he has a different outlook on life and the way he carries himself. I aspire to be like him. Our lifestyles were pretty different coming into college so seeing how he manages his life has had a big impact on me."
What are your top three to five values in life?
"Never lie, be kind to everyone you meet. I try to be on time with everything and I'm a big believer in compromise."
What is your best life lesson learned in college and/or golf?
"To stay patient and keep grinding on the golf course. In school, I have to manage my life and school work, while also taking care of my body. Paying attention to my health and making sure I am not putting a lot of stress on myself is important."
What is your dream job?
"I'd love to be a professional golfer, I love to travel and hangout with people that enjoy doing the same things I do. I enjoy meeting new people so traveling for golf would definitely help, I have no idea what I'd do without golf in my life."
Who would you play you in a movie/TV series?
"I'd play Matt Damon…Jason Bourne is the coolest guy ever. His action movies are intense and really awesome to watch, I'm a big fan."
What is your biggest fear? Is there a personal story about why?
"My biggest fear is leading at the Masters on the last day and then having my wife go into labor the same day. I'd miss out on the chance of winning the most important major tournament in my life, but missing the birth of my child would be the worst thing to do. I feel like I'd have nightmares about that."
What is one thing that no one knows about Andy?
"One thing people don't know about me is that I used to be on a club swim team. I swam competitively for three years and was pretty good, but just didn't have enough time with all the other sports I played."
