
Women’s Golf Set to Compete in Fred Marx Invitational

For the fourth time this fall, the Ladyjacks will take to the links for competition, competing Monday and Tuesday at the Fred Marx Invitational in Monroe, Louisiana.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The 2017 Fred Marx Invitational awaits the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 16-17, in Monroe, Louisiana. Its first and only tournament played in the state of Louisiana this season, SFA will take to the links of the 72-par 6,157-yard golf course at the Bayou DeSiard Country Club starting Monday at 8:15 a.m.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament hosted by Louisiana-Monroe will feature 36 holes of play Monday, followed by the final 18 holes for the final round Tuesday. Both days of play will get underway at 8:15 a.m. with shotgun starts.
A total of 13 teams will be competing in the Fred Marx Invitational, including fellow Southland Conference members Lamar, Incarnate Word and McNeese. Murray State, Austin Peay, South Alabama, UT Arlington, Alcorn State, Prairie View A&M, Murray State College, Centenary College and host Louisiana-Monroe fill out the remainder of the field.
All eight Ladyjack golfers will be teeing off Monday morning with sophomore Alexandra Batista (Trophy Club, Texas), redshirt junior Jamee Jorgensen (Boerne, Texas), sophomore Haleigh Jordan (San Antonio, Texas), redshirt junior Erica Lautensack (Arlington, Texas) and sophomore Paola Cortes (Allen, Texas) representing SFA's lineup. True freshmen Alexis Szewczyk (McKinney, Texas) and Kelly Yang (Sugar Land, Texas), along with senior Zoey Daneshfar (Trophy Club, Texas), will compete as individuals. The Ladyjacks are paired with players from Incarnate Word and UT Arlington as the trios will tee off from holes eight through 11 Monday morning. Yang is paired with players from Alcorn State and Prairie View A&M and will tee off from hole 15, while Szewczyk and Daneshfar will start on hole 16.
SFA did not compete in the Fred Marx Invitational last season but is looking to improve upon its third-place finish at the Sam Houston State Bearkat Invitational earlier this month. The Ladyjacks shot a season-best 58-over 910 on the par-71 course and posted their first top-five finish of the season.

Getting to know sophomore Haleigh Jordan
A native of San Antonio, Texas (Johnson H.S.), Jordan competed in 30 rounds as a true freshman during the 2016-17 season, averaging a 79.67. She tied for 18th at the UIW Lady Cardinal Classic with a 21-over 234 and posted a season-low 16-over 229 at the Southland Conference Championship, tying for 23rd. Jordan finished among the top three Ladyjacks on three occasions last season and owns a 77.11 scoring average through nine rounds this fall. At the Bearkat Invitational earlier this month, Jordan posted her second career top-20 finish as she finished tied for 18th with an 18-over 231.
Why did you choose to come and play at SFA?
"I came to play at SFA because I really liked the campus, team and coaches."
Who is the most influential person in your life, and why?
"My mom is the most influential person in my life. She has helped shape me into the person I am today by leading and being a great example. She has taught me to work hard in everything I do, and glorify God with everything He has given me."
What are your top three to five values in life?
"My number one priority in life is God. Other things I value highly in life are hard work, honesty, and helping others."
What is your best life lesson learned in college and/or golf?
"Golf has taught me how you cannot control everything that happens, but you can control how you react to situations."
What is your dream job?
"I really would like to be a college golf coach one day or be a recruiter for a firm."
Who would play you in a movie/TV series?
"Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games because it is my favorite movie series."
What is your biggest fear? Is there a story behind it?
"I used to be afraid of failure. Everyone always wants to be successful. I learned over the years through life experiences and golf that my failures do not define me, but allow me to grow and become better in everything I do."
What is one thing that no one knows about Erica?
"I am trying to learn how to play the Ukulele."
