'Jacks Finish 11th at Louisville Cardinal Challenge

Paced by a top-10 finish from freshman Max Kettler, SFA posted a 11th-place finish at its second tournament of the fall season
SIMPSONVILLE, Kentucky – The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team moved up to finish 11th at the University of Louisville's Cardinal Challenge Sunday afternoon after shooting a 9-over 207 in the final round of play. For the three-day tournament, the Lumberjacks posted a final tally of 44-over 908 and placed one stroke above fellow Southland Conference member Southeastern Louisiana at the University of Louisville Golf Club.
Improving their score by five strokes or better as a team each round, SFA had a top-10 finisher in true freshman Max Kettler. The Southlake, Texas (Carroll H.S.), native led the 'Jacks with a 10th-place finish as he totaled a three-round score of 2-over 218, shooting a 1-over 73 in the final round Sunday.
Fellow true freshman Andy Lopez (Dallas, Texas) improved his score by five strokes each day of play and posted a 2-under 70 in the final round. He finished with a 9-over 225 to tie for 39th, shooting up 21 spots on the player leaderboard between the second and third rounds. Junior Angelo Leyvani (San Antonio, Texas) remained in the 56th spot with a three-day total of 14-over 230 after shooting a 4-over 76 Sunday.
Freshman Steven Fabik (Carrollton, Texas) tied for 66th in the tournament, going six strokes over par in the final round and owning a total tally of 20-over 236, while senior Blake Stock (Hewitt, Texas) came in 78th with a three-round total of 26-over 242.
Host Louisville claimed the team title with a score of 9-underr 855 as Miami University (Ohio) finished second with a three-day total of 2-over 866, and Eastern Kentucky placed third with a 12-over 876. The Cardinals had three of the top four individual finishers and placed five in the top 10.
Miami University's Patrick Flavin claimed the individual title with a 9-under 207, shooting no worse than 2-under in each round of play. Competing as an individual, Louisville's Erik Dulik placed second with a 7-under 209, while the Cardinals' Simon Zach finished third with a three-round score of 6-under 210.

The 'Jacks will have three weeks off from competition before traveling to Arkansas for the Little Rock Intercollegiate, held Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 23-24, at the Chenal Country Club.
