FRISCO, Texas – Six Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks have been named to the 2016 preseason All-Southland Conference soccer teams, announced today by the league office. Hanna Barker, Kelly Ann Craig, Amanda Doyle and Brooke Dunnigan were all named first team selections with Lillie Ehlert and Breanna Moore earning second team nods.
The six selections for the Ladyjacks lead the Southland Conference while SFA’s four first team honorees is also a conference-best.
Reigning Southland Conference Player of the Year Amanda Doyle headlines the preseason teams as she and the rest of the Ladyjacks begin their quest for a sixth-straight SLC title. Doyle, a two-time All-SLC selection, led SFA with seven goals and 17 points in 2015 while ranking among the SLC leaders in a handful of categories.
Barker, a second team All-SLC honoree in 2015, led the Ladyjacks with five assists in 2015 and registered 11 total points, sitting second on the team. The 2014 SLC Freshman of the Year, two of Barker’s three goals last season were game-winners as she started all 19 games at the forward position.
Dunnigan was the top vote-getter among defenders as the senior is a two-time first team All-SLC performer. The 2015 Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year, Dunnigan was a third team NSCAA All-Central Region selection as she anchored a defensive unit which held conference opponents to a 0.43 goals against average.
Craig joins Dunnigan in the defensive backfield as the senior was named an honorable mention All-SLC performer in 2015. A starter in all 19 games, Craig ranked third on the team in minutes played (1,559), registering a pair of assists while putting 11 shots on goal, ranking third on the team.
Moore earned her first career all-conference honors, being named a preseason second team selection after a strong freshman campaign. The sophomore finished the 2015 season ranked second on the team in goals (four) and third in points (nine), starting 18 of her 19 games as a true freshman.
Ehlert looks to build off her second team All-SLC season in net for the Ladyjacks as she allowed just 16 goals on the season, boasting a 1.02 goals against average and an .840 save percentage. The junior registered 84 saves in 2015 and was a crucial component of a Ladyjack defensive attach which posted seven shutouts on the season.
The All-SLC preseason teams were the first announcement of a two-part series, leading into the announcement of the preseason all-conference teams Wednesday.
The Ladyjacks, winners of the last five SLC regular season titles, begin their quest for a sixth-straight crown this weekend, traveling to Houston for an exhibition tilt against Rice Friday at 7 p.m. The 2016 regular season gets underway on Friday, August 19th when SFA hosts Jackson State at 7 p.m. at the SFA Soccer Field.
