NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin will get its first chance to see how it stacks up against outside competition Friday, heading to Houston for an exhibition match against Rice. Opening kick against the Owls gets underway at 7 p.m. at Holloway Field.
The Ladyjacks head into Friday's exhibition match with high expectations for the 2016 season, earning the nod as the Southland Conference preseason favorite earlier this week. Six Ladyjacks were tabbed preseason All-SLC selections, led by reigning SLC Player of the Year Amanda Doyle and fellow first team selections Hanna Barker, Kelly Ann Craig and Brooke Dunnigan.
While Friday's game doesn't count toward the all-time series record, SFA and Rice have met seven times previously with the Owls winning five. However, the Ladyjacks have had the upper hand in the last two meetings, defeating Rice 1-0 in both 2012 and 2013.
After Friday's exhibition tilt, SFA will turn its sights on the 2016 regular season which gets underway on Friday, August 19th. The Ladyjacks host Jackson State in the regular season opener at 7 p.m. at Ladyjack Soccer Field with the game being broadcast on ESPN3, the first production of the year for SFA.
