Sheehan posted the low round of the day for the Lumberjacks, carding a 2-over 74, with Leyvani adding a 4-over 76. For Leyvani, it is his third-straight top-20 finish while Sheehan registered his team-best sixth top-20 showing of the year and the 23rd overall of his Lumberjack career.
Senior Nathan Weant matched Leyvani’s 4-over 76 over round three and finished tied for 36th overall with an 8-over 224. The Lumberjacks, as well as the rest of the teams, endured a two-hour lightning delay near the end of the round as play was suspended with less than three holes to go. SFA was able to finish the final holes and register the ninth-place finish, giving the Lumberjacks their sixth top-10 team finish of the 2015-16 season.
SFA was able to outlast Southland Conference foe Lamar (28-over 892) to secure the number nine spot and was 10 shots ahead of fellow SLC foe Abilene Christian (28-over 892). The ‘Jacks were three shots back of eighth-place Louisiana Tech (24-over 888) and nine behind seventh-place Texas State (16-over 880) competing against the challenging field.
Saint Mary’s took home the team title with an impressive 16-under 848, defeating second-place McNeese State (5-under 859) by a convincing 11 strokes. Rice (1-under 863) was the only other team to finish under par with North Texas (6-over 870) and UT-Arlington (8-over 872) rounding out the top-five.
The trip to Bastrop was the final tune-up for SFA as the Lumberjacks now head to the DFW Metroplex for the 2016 Southland Conference Championships. The 54-hole event will be held at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, beginning Monday, April 18 and running through Wednesday, April 20.
