KENOSHA, Wis. – Eighth-ranked Stephen F. Austin registered a 2-3 record over the opening day of the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic at Sheridan Lanes. The Ladyjacks currently sit fourth among the 10-team field, recording 4,953 total pins and averaging 198.12 pins per game.
Competing in its fifth tournament in six weeks, the Ladyjacks got off to a fast start, defeating host Wisconsin-Whitewater 1,062-965, highlighted by a 259 in game five, the third-straight 200-pin game of the match for SFA. The Ladyjacks then fell to Adelphi in game two 1,055-1,043, losing the match by a total of 12 pins despite three games of 200-or better, highlighted by a 247 in game three.
SFA responded in match three, defeating Valparaiso 964-941 with a 227 in game five. But the final two matches of the day didn’t go in favor of the Ladyjacks, dropping a 1,004-986 nailbiter to Central Missouri before falling 917-898 to Elmhurst in the final match of the day.
With the five-game baker style round complete, Central Missouri leads the team standings with a 4-1 record and a 204.12 average, leading both second-place Adelphi (199.52) and McKendree (199.24), who both finished 4-1 on the day. Nebraska currently sits fifth behind the Ladyjacks with a 4-1 record and a 197.20 average with Wisconsin-Whitewater (1-4, 190.96) sitting sixth.
