HAMMOND, La. -- Just two days after opening up Southland Conference play with a dominating 25-point victory over McNeese State, the Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team will look to keep the momentum going against Southeastern Louisiana in its first road test of 2016. The Ladyjacks and Lady Lions will collide late Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. inside the University Center. The game will be available to watch online at lionsports.net.
STORYLINES
• Monday's test against Southeastern Louisiana is SFA's third game in a six-day span. The Ladyjacks beat Texas A&M-Commerce last Wednesday before taking care of McNeese State in the SLC opener on Saturday night. Following Monday's tilt, SFA won't get a lot of rest as the squad hosts Central Arkansas on Thursday evening to wrap up a four-game, nine-day stretch.
• SFA's convincing 80-55 stomping of McNeese State on Saturday rectified a six-point loss to the Cowgirls to open SLC action last season. The loss last January was one of just two for the Ladyjacks during the entire league slate. The 25-point win this year marks the largest margin of victory during a conference bout for SFA since the `Jacks handed Central Arkansas a 73-46 loss in Conway last year on Jan. 8.
• Four Ladyjacks scored in double figures for the fifth time this year on Saturday night against McNeese. Junior guard Taylor Ross poured in 20 points -- her fourth 20+ point performance in 2015-16 -- to lead all scorers. Senior guard Paulletta Powell notched a season-high with 15 points, sophomore forward Stevi Parker picked up her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds and junior guard Brentney Branch added 10 points.
• SFA and SLU will meet for the 39th time on Monday evening, with the Ladyjacks in complete control of the all-time series, 33-5. Last season, the `Jacks needed overtime to secure a 78-71 victory. Taylor Ross scored a game-high 25 points and Porsha Roberts posted 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way.
• The Lady Lions come into the game with a 1-10 overall record in what will be their conference opener. The lack of victories in the win column can be partly attributed to a very difficult schedule to start the year. SLU has dropped games to Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, Xavier and Mississippi State over the first two months of the season. The Lady Lions have been led by Taylin Underwood and Nanna Pool through 11 games with the duo averaging 14.8 ppg and 13.5 ppg, respectively. In just three games, KaeLynn Boyd has put up an average of 16.0 ppg and nabbed SLC Player of the Week honors last week.
• The Ladyjacks have their eyes set on a third consecutive Southland Conference regular season title in 2016 after winning the league championship each of the last two seasons. Already with a league-best 17 regular season crowns, a third straight title in 2016 would make SFA the first team in the league to three-peat since the Ladyjacks accomplished the feat from 2000-02.
