NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- In search of its first true road win of the 2015-16 season, the Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team heads to New Orleans on Thursday night for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Privateers inside Lakefront Arena. The midweek contest also provides the Ladyjacks the opportunity to get back to .500 in league action after dropping each of their last two games. The game will be available to watch via UNOPrivateers.com.
STORYLINES
• After running their way to a convincing 80-55 victory over McNeese State in the Southland Conference opener on Jan. 2, the Ladyjacks have since dropped tight decisions to Southeastern Louisiana and Central Arkansas to fall to 1-2 in league play. SFA will look to get back on track against a New Orleans team that also sits 1-2 in the conference standings. A win would help the `Jacks avoid their first three-game SLC losing streak since early in the 2013-14 season.
• Expected to be one of the best backcourt tandems in the SLC this season, senior Taylor Schippers and junior Taylor Ross have lived up to the hype through the first leg of the league slate. Ross has dished out 14 assists during SLC play while Schippers has added 13 to rank second and third, respectfully. Schippers boasts the best assist/turnover ratio during conference play as she has not committed a single turnover over the first two weeks of action. Her ratio of 2.17 overall for the season ranks 44th nationally.
• Taylor Ross has established herself as one of the best scoring threats in the Southland Conference during her three-year career. She currently leads the Ladyjacks offensively with an average of 14.8 points per game. To begin the season, Ross scored in double figures in seven straight games and has done so a total of nine times in 12 games overall. When she scores 20 or more points, SFA is a perfect 4-0. On the other hand, when she scores 12 or fewer, the Ladyjacks are just 1-5.
• Junior center Adrienne Lewis had a breakout performance the last time her team took the court. Last Thursday night against Central Arkansas, Lewis treated the home fans to an 18-point, 13-rebound showing for her first career double-double. She registered new career-highs in both points and boards while shooting at an efficient 8 of 10 clip to warrant Social House Player of the Game recognition.
• The Ladyjacks have showcased a double-double outing in each of the last three games. Sophomore forward Stevi Parker posted 10+ points and 10+ rebounds in each of the first two SLC tilts before Adrienne Lewis accomplished the feat last Thursday night against UCA. Parker has three double-doubles on the season while Lewis has one.
• SFA and UNO will meet for just the sixth time on Thursday night in New Orleans. The Ladyjacks hold a 3-2 edge in the all-time series history and have won three straight. Since the Privateers joined the Southland Conference, the `Jacks are a perfect 2-0 in the set. The last time SFA traveled to "The Big Easy" (during the 2013-14 season), it came away with a dominating 68-36 victory. Last year, the Ladyjacks took care of the Privateers at William R. Johnson Coliseum, 76-56, behind double-digit scoring efforts from Porsha Roberts (15), Paulletta Powell (13), Tierany Henderson (11) and Brentney Branch (11). The Privateers' last win in the series came in the 2007-08 season.
• New Orleans sits at 4-8 overall this season with a 1-2 record in SLC play. The Privateers lost 79-52 to Lamar in their conference opener, beat Incarnate Word 55-49 in their only home game and most recently fell to Sam Houston State 64-52 on the road. Randi Brown has paced the offense so far on the season, averaging 16.9 points per game through 12 contests -- the best scoring average in the SLC.
• Following Thursday night's game, the Ladyjacks will return home to face Abilene Christian beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The SFA men will follow as part of a Saturday SLC doubleheader on ESPN3.
