NACOGDOCHES, Texas – After helping their team win the 2015 Hampton Inn & Suites SFA Volleyball Invitational this weekend, Stephen F. Austin seniors Jacque Allen and OJ Olson have been named the Southland Conference Players of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. The honor is the first of the season for each student-athlete.
Allen and Olson helped the Ladyjacks go a perfect 4-0 with sweeps of Northeastern, Texas Tech, South Dakota State and Columbia on Friday and Saturday. Allen paced the offense to a .275 team attack percentage overall while Olson captained the defense, limiting the four opponents to a .104 combined hitting mark.
Allen was nearly unstoppable from her middle blocker position over the weekend, posting 37 kills (3.08/set) on an impressive .559 hitting percentage. She committed just four attack errors on 59 swings in 12 sets played. The Mansfield native notched at least nine kills and hit .500 or better in all four matches, driving down nine winners against Texas Tech to help take down the Big 12 foe on Friday night. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for her solid play.
Olson had another terrific week for the Ladyjacks, registering a team-high 64 digs (5.33/set) in 12 sets played. The libero picked up 20 digs against Texas Tech and Columbia, adding 11 against Northeastern and 13 in the South Dakota State match. A native of Cedar Park, Olson currently ranks 19th in the country with 5.27 digs per set on the season.
The Ladyjacks will play at ULM on Monday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m. before returning to tournament action at Tulsa next weekend. Fans can listen to Monday’s match and every match at the Tulsa Tournament via SFAVolleyBlog.net.
