TULSA, Okla. – Stephen F. Austin closed out its trip to Oklahoma with a third-place finish at the 2015 Bob Hurley ORU Shootout at Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa. The Ladyjacks posted a 28-over 316 over the final 18 holes, closing out the 54-hole event with a 50-over 914.
The 914 goes down as the fourth-best 54-hole tournament total in program history, seven strokes behind the program-best 907 posted at last year’s UIW Fall Invitational. It marks the fifth tournament the Ladyjacks have finished among the top-three in program history and the first since tying for third at the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational last spring.
Entering the day in second place, SFA remained in the hunt for the majority of the day, appearing poised to make a run at the tournament title. But some untimely bogeys on the back nine came back to cost the Ladyjacks, finishing seven shots back of the team title.
One day after her program-low round, Erica Lautensack struggled in round three, shooting an 11-over 83 but still posted a top-20 finish as the sophomore tied for 15th overall with an 11-over 227. She was joined in the top-20 by senior teammate Sydney Reed, who shot a team-low 4-over 76 in round three and tied for 20th with a 12-over 228.
Junior Jessie White finished third among the Ladyjack scorecard with a 15-over 231, tying for 26th in the individual standings. Senior Mackenzie Steiner shot a 6-over 78 Tuesday, finishing at 22-over 238, with Ann Holcomb rounding out the scorecard with a 25-over 241, including a 7-over 79 in round three.
SFA recorded its first top-five finish of the season, sitting seven shots back of tournament champion Sam Houston State (43-over 907) and five back of second-place South Dakota (45-over 909) as the Coyotes used a 7-over 295 in round three to leapfrog the Ladyjacks. SFA was one stroke better than host Oral Roberts (51-over 915) and four better than both Lamar and McNeese State (54-over 918), who tied for fifth overall.
SFA returns to action next week, making the short trip to Huntsville for the 2015 SHSU Bearkat Women’s Invitational. The event gets underway with 36 holes on Monday, October 5, before concluding with the final round Tuesday, October 6.
