HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Stephen F. Austin carded a 48-over 616 over the opening two rounds of the 2015 SHSU Bearkat Women’s Invitational. The Ladyjacks posted a 23-over 307 in the morning round, then followed it up with a 25-over 309 in the afternoon, sitting eighth among the 15-team field.
SFA opened up the day with a 307, led by a 4-over 75 from junior Jessie White. Senior Sydney Reed and junior Ann Holcomb each finished with a 6-over 77, followed by a 7-over 78 from freshman Jamee Jorgensen. Sophomore Erica Lautensack closed out the Ladyjack scorecard with an 8-over 79 as junior Courtney Ford posted a 7-over 78, competing as an individual.
The winds picked up in round two as the Ladyjacks added a pair of strokes to their round one total, finishing with a 25-over 309. White once again led the way, shooting a day-high 2-over 73 for the Ladyjacks as Jorgensen’s 6-over 77 and Holcomb’s 7-over 78 were the other sub-80 rounds for SFA. Reed shot a 10-over 81 with Lautensack adding a 12-over 83 with Ford notching a 9-over 80.
With 36 holes in the books, White leads the Ladyjacks with a 6-over 148, tied for eighth in the individual standings. She holds a seven stroke lead over both Holcomb and Jorgensen as the duo is tied for 35th with a 13-over 155. Reed is tied for 43rd overall with a 16-over 158 with Lautensack’s 20-over 162 rounding out the Ladyjack scorecard.
SFA’s 48-over 616 is two shots better than ninth-place McLennan C.C. (50-over 618) and five strokes better than 10th-place Tyler J.C. (53-over 621). The Ladyjacks are five shots back of seventh-place Sam Houston State (34-over 611) as SFA is nine shots behind both Lamar and Southern Mississippi (39-over 607) as the Ladyjacks try to make a run at a top-five finish.
Houston Baptist holds the team lead with a 25-over 593, sitting 10 shots ahead of Southland Conference rivals McNeese State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (35-over 603) in second place. Central Arkansas (37-over 605) is in fourth after 36 holes with the Cardinals and Golden Eagles rounding out the top-five.
Tuesday’s final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. as SFA will be teamed up with Sam Houston State and McLennan C.C. in the final round pairings. Full results will be posted at SFAJacks.com as they become available.
