Result: SFA second out of 15 teams (22-over 598)

TULSA, Okla. - It was a day for the record books as sophomore Erica Lautensack fired a program-low 5-under 67 and Stephen F. Austin tallied a 7-over 295 in round two over the opening 36 holes of the 2015 Bob Hurley ORU Shootout. Both Lautensack and the Ladyjacks sit second heading into Tuesday’s final round at Meadowbrook Country Club.
Lautensack’s second round Monday is one that rewrote the Ladyjack record books as her 5-under 67 is the lowest single round in program history. It is two shots better than the previous record of 69, held by both Lautensack and Chelsea Simmons, as the Arlington native currently sits tied for second in the individual standings with an even-par 144 following an opening round 5-over 77.
The sophomore was bogey-free in round two, recording birdies on holes six and seven to post a 2-under 34 through the front nine, then recording birdies on 11, 14 and 18 to complement her 13 pars on the day, giving her a 3-under 33 over the back nine. With her final bogey of the day coming on hole 17 of round one, Lautensack finished at par or better over her final 19 holes of the day.
Lautensack’s second round was part of a memorable showing by the entire Ladyjack team whose 295 goes down as the second-lowest round in program history, one shot back of the record 294 set in both 2013 and 2015. Four of the five SFA competitors shot a 78-or better, including a 74 from senior Sydney Reed, a 76 from junior Jessie White and a 78 from senior Mackenzie Steiner.
White joins Lautensack among the individual top-10, posting an even-par 72 in round one to go along with her second round 76, sitting at 4-over 148 and tied for 10th overall. Reed is tied for 26th with an 8-over 152 (78-74) with Steiner posting a 16-over 160 (82-78). Ann Holcomb rounded out the Ladyjack scorecard with an 18-over 162 (76-86).
SFA opened the 54-hole event with a 15-over 303 in round one, good enough for a fourth-place showing after 18 holes. But then the Ladyjacks found their groove as the 7-over 295 was the lowest total of round two, and the third-lowest of the day, settling into second in the team standings.
There is a Southland Conference bottleneck at the top of the leaderboard as Piney Woods rival Sam Houston State currently occupies the top spot with an 18-over 594, four shots better than SFA’s 22-over 598. McNeese State (24-over 600) is two shots back of the Ladyjacks in third with host Oral Roberts (31-over 607) and North Texas (33-over 609) rounding out the top five.
Tuesday’s final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start as the Ladyjacks will begin on holes 1-3, teaming up with the Bearkats and Cowgirls in the final round pairings.
