NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s soccer team will hold its annual Purple vs. White Game this Saturday evening at SFA Soccer Field. The Ladyjacks’ first exhibition game of the preseason will consist of two 30-minute halves when play begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the event is free.
Fans will have the opportunity to ‘Meet and Beat’ the ‘Jacks immediately following the game. Children in attendance will be invited to go through drills and play games with the Ladyjacks before the players sign autographs. Team photos of the 2015 squad will be available for the players to sign.
“The Purple and White Game will be a great chance for fans, administrators, students and people in the community to see our new players play and to see returners potentially playing in new positions,” said head coach Wally Crittenden. “From an internal standpoint, our coaching staff will be looking to validate depth charts that we’re starting to establish early this season.”
After officially reporting to campus on Tuesday and holding the first team practice on Wednesday morning, the Ladyjacks have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming year.
“Training has been fantastic so far this preseason,” Crittenden said. “The kids came into camp in great shape. Whenever your team is as dedicated and focused away from campus as they are on campus it’s a good thing. It puts us in a great position to start where we want to start. With fitness being able to be taken off the table as a primary piece to make sure we’re ready for the season, we can just focus on playing.
“We have great soccer players and great soccer IQ. The team dynamic, possession, and scheme work are at the highest levels they’ve ever been since I’ve been at SFA. The team chemistry is also very strong which is really exciting to see early on.”
Following Saturday’s scrimmage, SFA will travel to play TCU in Fort Worth on August 12 in the team’s final tune-up before the 2015 season officially begins on August 21 at Arkansas. The 2015 home opener is scheduled for September 11 when SFA hosts Louisiana-Monroe at 7:00 p.m.
