After helping the Ladyjacks win four consecutive Southland Conference Championships during their time at SFA, Megan Dunnigan, Morgan Glick and Chelsea Raymond became the first three women’s soccer players to sign professional contracts in program history. Three of the best players to ever wear the SFA purple and white, they took their talents overseas to Iceland to kick off their pro careers. Over the course of the summer, SFAJacks.com will post journal entries and photos from Dunnigan, Glick and Raymond, highlighting their experiences and post-collegiate achievements.
Ladyjacks in the Pros: Iceland Adventure Part Two

We’re a little over halfway through our time here in Iceland! We have really enjoyed all of our experiences so far and are looking forward to what’s ahead! This past month we have gotten to travel a lot around Iceland when we’re not busy with soccer.

Our first big trip was to the Golden Circle with a couple of teammates. This consisted of Gullfoss (Golden Falls), Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park, and Geysir. We were welcomed into their summerhouse, where their families cooked us an amazing traditional Icelandic meal.
A few weeks later we had the opportunity to borrow a car and drive along the south coast by ourselves. This trip was an adventure: learning to drive a standard transmission car the night before and navigating the south coast with nothing but an old-fashioned road map! The high points from this trip included Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, the rocky black beaches of Vík, and Jökulsárlón (Glacier Lagoon).

We completed our major travel plans around the country by visiting the west and north coasts with a long road trip this past weekend with one of our teammates. We drove along the beautiful Snæfellsnes Peninsula in the west and then made our way north to Lake Myvatn and Dettifoss waterfall. It never ceases to amaze us how beautiful this country is!

In addition to the natural beauty of Iceland, we’ve also been able to enjoy the culture! July 4th weekend was celebrated a little differently than we’re used to, by joining the community of Akranes in celebrating Írskír Dagar (Irish Days). This is an annual festival filled with street barbeques, concerts, and carnivals all through the weekend.
Akranes hosted group games for the UEFA U17 tournament one weekend, and we were able to help work it! We were put in charge of the inflatable slide, and little did we know it would be a harder job than expected…

Soccer has been going well, as we are finishing up the last half of our season and looking forward to the playoffs. Currently, we have the least amount of goals scored against us among all of the teams in Iceland, which is exciting for both of us as we are both defensive players!

Ironically, we played against fellow Southland soccer alum, Audrey Baldwin, who was a goalkeeper for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
We also enjoy supporting ÍA’s men’s team with the large crowds and exciting atmosphere.
We are really looking forward to finishing off the month of July with a trip to London for four days! We appreciate and are thankful for all of the support back home and we are excited to take advantage of our last month and a half here!
Love from Iceland,
Megan & Morgan
