NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin head coach Clint Conque has announced the addition of offensive lineman Devonte Jones to the 2015 Lumberjack roster. Jones is a freshman transfer from Baylor and will have four seasons of eligibility remaining.
"It's another good day to be able to add a player like Devonte," Conque said. "He will create depth and competition to an experienced offensive line. Devonte will have an opportunity to contribute in 2015, but with four years of eligibility remaining, he has a bright future in our program."
Jones, a 6-2, 305-pound offensive lineman, was part of Baylor's 2014 signing class and spent one semester at with the Bears, utilizing a greyshirt during the spring 2015 semester while participating in spring drills.
A three year starter at Bellaire High School in Houston, Jones was a two-time all-district selection, including a first team selection in 2013 after leading the Cardinals to an 8-3 record and advancing to the bi-district finals. Rated among the nation's top-100 offensive linemen, Jones was a three-star recruit by both 247Sports and Rivals.
Jones becomes the fifth transfer to join the Lumberjacks since February and the third offensive player, joining tight end Lucas Askew and wide receiver Judah Jones. Jones will add depth to a veteran offensive line, comprised by first team All-Southland Conference selection Byron Williams and seniors David Dane, Terran Vaughn and Travis Wiggins.
SFA is entering its summer workout schedule, gearing up to the start of fall camp in August. The Lumberjacks, ranked 17th in the preseason Sporting News FCS poll, open up the 2015 season on Saturday, September 5th, hosting 22nd-ranked Northern Arizona in a battle of Lumberjacks at Homer Bryce Stadium.
