NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin track and field teams will be represented by its multi-event specialists on Thursday and Friday at the David Noble ASU Multi Meet hosted by Angelo State.
Cody Rhodes and Hunter Key will compete in the men's decathlon while Caitlin Jones and Madeline Kaufmann will be in action in the women's heptathlon over the two-day event.
SFA is just one of eight schools sending athletes to San Angelo, Texas as Texas Tech, Sam Houston State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M-Kingsville, South Plains, Trinity and Angelo State will also have at least one dog in the fight.
Rhodes is coming off a big week at the SFA Skechers Carl Kight Invitational last week, winning the men's javelin throw with a huge personal best heave of 198-4 (60.46m). The 2014 Southland Conference Champion in the outdoor decathlon owns the nation's 10th best point total in a decathlon this season, putting up 6,948 points at the Texas Relays two weeks ago.
Kaufmann is also riding some momentum entering Thursday's competition to lead the Ladyjacks. The sophomore took third place in the women's pentathlon at the 2015 SLC Indoor Championships and has posted some good results early in the outdoor season.
The heptathlon is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and the decathlon will start at 3:00 p.m.
