HOUSTON, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin softball team erased a four-run deficit thanks in part to the bat of Taylor LeFlore but the Ladyjacks couldn't finish off Texas Southern on Tuesday night, falling 6-4 at Memorial Park. SFA drops to 11-26 this season with the loss.
Three Ladyjacks had multi-hit afternoons as Heather Hollingsworth and LeFlore each finished 2-for-3 at the dish while Lora Blackwell went a perfect 2-for-2. All three drew a walk in the game to reach base safely on three separate occasions.
The Lady Tigers (14-14) jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs off three RBI singles in the first inning, but the Ladyjacks would chip away at the early lead with runs in the second, third and fourth innings.
Taylor Vick opened the SFA scoring with a sacrifice fly to left field in the second, scoring LeFlore from third. Hollingsworth took advantage of a pickoff attempt at first base in the third inning to score a run and make it a 4-2 TSU lead.
In the fourth inning, LeFlore completed wiped away the Lady Tiger cushion with a big time two-run home run. Her first blast of the year evened the contest at 4-4 and put all of the momentum back on the purple and white side.
Texas Southern regained the lead with two runs in the fifth inning, however, as Chanier Powell and Gisella Paranich notched back-to-back RBI hits to put the Lady Tigers up 6-4.
Makayla Sikes was charged with the loss for SFA after tossing 4.2 frames. Callee Guffey closed the game with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
TSU's Jasmin Fulmore picked up the win after allowing four runs on eight hits and five walks over a complete seven innings.
The Ladyjacks return home for another game against a SWAC school on Wednesday afternoon when Prairie View A&M comes to town. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. out at SFA Softball Field.
