NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin head women's basketball coach Brandon Schneider has announced the addition of junior transfer Taylor Birchfield to the Ladyjack roster for the 2015-16 season.
Birchfield is a transfer from Lincoln Trail College, a junior college located in Robinson, Illinois, where she averaged 9.4 points per game on 40.4 percent shooting during her sophomore season in 2014-15. The 6-2 forward led the Lady Statesmen with 6.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game, getting the starting nod 27 times in 27 appearances.
"Taylor brings length, athleticism, and experience to our core of front line players," said Schneider. "She has the skill level to play in both the low and high post areas and will be terrific in a transition and up-tempo style of play. Her toughness and ability to rebound also make her a perfect fit in our defensive scheme. We expect Taylor to compete for major minutes and make an immediate impact on our program."
Birchfield will be able to suit up right away upon her arrival to Nacogdoches as a junior, joining a highly touted group of newcomers heading to Schneider's squad next season.
A native of Casey, Illinois, Birchfield enjoyed a successful high school career at Casey Westfield. She was a four-year letterwinner, earning All-Little Illini Conference honors and team MVP recognition during her senior campaign.
Birchfield was named to the Dean's List during both years at Lincoln Trail and was a four-year honor roll member in high school. She plans to study business and athletic training at SFA.
