DELHI, La. - Stephen F. Austin had a strong opening round at the 2015 ULM Wallace Jones Invitational, sitting tied for fourth with a 1-over 577. The Lumberjacks posted an even-par 288 in round one, then added one stroke in round two, finishing with a 1-over 298.
Freshman Tony Underwood continues his strong play over the last two weeks, firing a career-low even-par 72 in round one, then besting that with a 1-under 71 in round two. Underwood is at 1-under 143 for the event, sitting tied for 11th in the overall standings.
Sophomore Baxter Ward is right on Underwood's heels, shooting an even-par 144 (73-71) over the opening two holes, and is tied for 14th overall. The Lumberjack trio of senior Blake Pugh (73-73) and juniors Nathan Weant (71-75) and Luke Sheehan (73-73) all posted a 2-over 146, sitting among a logjam for 26th-place.
SFA is tied with Oakland (1-over 577) for fourth after the initial 36 holes and is just one stroke back of third-place Louisiana Tech (even-par 576). Arkansas-Little Rock (8-under 568) is the leader in the clubhouse, leading second-place host Louisiana-Monroe (2-under 574) by six strokes.
Tuesday's final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with the Lumberjacks teaming up with Oakland and SLC foe New Orleans in the final round groupings. Full results will be posted at SFAJacks.com as they become available.
