'Jacks Tied For Eighth at Bandon Dunes

BANDON, Ore - Stephen F. Austin sits tied for eighth following the opening round of the 2015 Bandon Dunes Championship. The Lumberjacks shot a 2-over 290, holding their own against a challenging 16-team field in their first tournament of the spring season.
Senior Blake Pugh and junior Nathan Weant led the way for SFA as both carded a 1-under 71 over the opening round with the duo tied for 14th in the individual standings. Freshman Tony Underwood had a strong opening round, shooting an even-par 72 to sit tied for 25th overall.
Junior Luke Sheehan posted a 4-over 76 with sophomore Baxter Ward carding a 5-over 77 to round out the Lumberjack scorecard.
SFA is tied with Army after the opening 18 holes as the duo hold a one shot lead over 10th-place San Jose State (3-over 291). The `Jacks are one shot back of seventh-place Utah Valley (1-over 289) and two strokes behind sixth-place Washington State (Even-par 288).
UC Davis leads the stacked field after round one, shooting an impressive 7-under 281, holding a two-stroke lead on St. Mary's (5-under 283). Missouri and Duke (3-under 285) are tied for third with Colorado (2-under 286) rounding out the top-five, four shots better than the `Jacks.
Saturday's second round gets underway at 10:30 a.m. CT from the Oregon coast with the Lumberjacks playing with Utah Valley and Washington State in the second round pairings. Full results will be posted as they become available.
