NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head coach Wally Crittenden and the four-time defending Southland Conference champion Ladyjack soccer program announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Wednesday morning. All five are prep recruits from Texas who play for some of the top respected club teams in the state.
The 2015 class consists of Breanna Moore (F, Kingwood HS, Challenge ‘97 ECNL), Tyler Johnson (D, Frisco Wakeland HS, D’Feeters ‘97 ECNL), Bailey Bosley (MF/D, Klein Oak HS, Challenge ‘97 ECNL), Julianna Echaverry (D, Cinco Ranch HS, Albion Hurricanes ‘97 ECNL) and Crystal Calvit (MF/F, Santa Fe HS, Space City Futbol Club ‘96 Premier).
“This is a very well-balanced class through the various units of the field,” Crittenden said. “Though each of them may compete in different parts of the field, they all have very high athleticism and dynamic mobility in partnership with high competitive character. There is no doubt that the class of 2015 will be in positions to win championships for years to come.”
Breanna Moore (F, Kingwood HS, Challenge ‘97 ECNL)
Moore, a forward from Kingwood High School, is a four-year letterwinner and two-time all-state and first team all-district selection. In 2013, Moore was named the district defensive MVP and an all-state defender. She then aided KHS to the regional semi-finals in 2014, picking up district offensive MVP honors and named all-state at forward. Moore, also named preseason All-Greater Houston and all-tournament at the NEPS Showcase in 2014, led the Mustangs to three consecutive district championships (2012-14).
Moore played club for Challenge ’97 in the ECNL, where she was named to the all-event team at the ECNL Frisco showcase in 2013.
Crittenden on Moore:
“Breanna comes to us from Challenge Soccer Club and the ‘97 ECNL team in Houston, after working with Pat O’Toole, Stuart Self and Chris Maravelli. Breezy is a dynamic attacking player with very high top-end speed and a goal scoring instinct. She is powerful and is very dangerous in open space, as well as finishing anywhere around the box. With her high competitive character and charisma, she will add great quality to our forward unit.”
Tyler Johnson (D, Frisco Wakeland HS, D’Feeters ‘97 ECNL)
Johnson, a defender from Frisco Wakeland High School, is a four-year letterwinner and three-time all-district selection. A 2015 team captain, Johnson was named all-district defensive MVP as a junior and has helped WHS win two district championships, two area championships and make an appearance in the regional quarterfinals during her prep career.
Johnson played club for the D’Feeters ’97 in the ECNL, where she was team captain for two years and helped the team advance to the Top Flight of the ECNL National Championships twice (2013-14).
Crittenden on Johnson:
“Tyler comes to SFA from the D’Feeters Soccer Club and it’s ‘97 ECNL team based in Dallas under the direction of Hugh Bradford and Don McElwee. Tyler is a very athletic defender that will compete in either the center back or holding center-midfield positions. Critical of any central defender is the ability to maintain composure while withstanding the opponent’s attacks. Along with composure, her tremendous passing tempo and the ability to read the game at a very high level off the ball will be a great addition to a very accomplished back line.”
Bailey Bosley (MF/D, Klein Oak HS, Challenge ‘97 ECNL)
Bosley, a midfield/defender from Klein Oak High School, is a four-year letterwinner. Bosley picked up all-district honorable mention and was the only freshman on the 2012 team that advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament. Bosley was named first team all-district as a sophomore and junior, also picking up team offensive MVP in 2014. A two-time team captain, Bosley was named preseason All-Greater Houston Girls team as a senior.
Bosley played club for the Challenge ’97 in the ECNL for the last two years.
Crittenden on Bosley:
“Bailey is the second player in this signing class from the Challenge ‘97 ECNL team out of Houston. She is very athletic and is a tremendous ball-winner and individual defender. With great mobility and competitive instincts, Bailey will be featured in a multitude of positions including holding center-midfield and outside back. Her ability to compete in the air and her relentless attitude in pursuit of the ball, will make her a force in the middle of the field and in attacking, or defending, restarts.”
Julianna Echavarry (D, Cinco Ranch HS, Albion Hurricanes ‘97 ECNL)
Echavarry, a defender from Cinco Ranch HS, is a four-year letterwinner and two-time all-district selection and all-regional finalist. As a captain, Echaverry led CRHS to a regional championship and appearance in the state semifinals as a junior, picking up all-tournament MVP honors.
Echaverry played club for the Albion Hurricanes ’97 in the ECNL for three years. She helped the Hurricanes post a 2-2 record in the 2013 National Championship, finishing seventh in the nation. Echaverry was also a two-time regional champion and back-to-back state champion.
Crittenden on Echaverry:
“Julianna is joining us from the Albion Hurricanes Soccer Club ‘97 ECNL team. Jules has spent the last several years working under Danny Hill, Russell Gee and, most recently, Dylan Glad. Jules has very creative instincts and is a powerful runner with the ball. She also is an excellent individual defender and understands the off-the-ball requirements to be a part of an outstanding defensive unit. These qualities, along with her competitive character and dynamic attacking instincts, will make Jules an ideal left back within the Ladyjack system.”
Crystal Calvit (MF/F, Santa Fe HS, Space City Futbol Club ‘96 Premier)
Calvit comes to SFA from Santa Fe HS as a midfield/forward where she picked up all-district honors and led the District 43-4A in scoring. Calvit has also excelled in the classroom, currently ranked second out of 325 in her graduating class and picked up U.S. Achievement Academy All-American Scholar awards as a freshman and sophomore.
Calvit played club for the Space City Fútbol Club ‘96 Premier team. Calvit helped the team win the Texas South Premier fall division and advance to the 2013 U.S. Youth Regional III Soccer Championships.
Crittenden on Calvit:
“Crystal comes to the Ladyjack Soccer program by way of the Space City Fútbol Club ‘96 team coached by Randy Evans. Crystal brings with her tremendous experience and elite ball handling skills. Crystal’s top-end speed and her ability to maintain control technically while running at the opposition will not only be overwhelming to our opponents, but will unbalance defenders so that our players around Crystal can get into very dangerous positions. With the creative instincts and mobility Crystal possesses, she will be featured as a center-midfielder or winger depending on the shape selected.”
The Ladyjacks lose six seniors from the 2014 SLC champion squad – Chelsea Raymond, Morgan Glick, Zuri Prince, Megan Dunnigan, Christie Hinojosa, and Christa Robinson. Raymond, Glick, Prince, Dunnigan and Hinojosa, were all four-year letterwinners and conference champions.
