NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Paced by 20 points from both Clide Geffrard and Jacob Parker, Stephen F. Austin coasted to an 86-71 victory over Nicholls at William R. Johnson Coliseum. The win improves SFA to 22-4 on the year and 12-1 in Southland Conference play.
The 20 points for Geffrard is a new career high as he finished 6-of-10 from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line while also dishing out three assists. Parker's 20 points came on 6-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range as he knocked down four of his five free throw attempts.
Thomas Walkup finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, upping his career point total to 993. Ty Charles added four points and four rebounds while Trey Pinkney, Dallas Cameron, Justin Dotson and Bobby King each finished with three points on the night.
SFA had a hard time establishing its usual offensive gameplan as the contest was plagued by 48 total fouls - 26 from Nicholls and 22 from the Lumberjacks. The Colonels were able to match the `Jacks through the first 12 minutes of the game, leading by as many as three at 21-18 with 8:42 remaining in the opening half.
The Lumberjacks would then string together an 11-2 run, capped by a Geffrard dunk, to build an eight-point cushion at 29-21 just under three minutes later. SFA extended its lead to 11 at the half, taking a 41-30 edge into the break off a jumper by Demetrious Floyd.
SFA continued to extend its lead in the second, leading by as many as 23 at 77-54 with 6:10 remaining off a three from Parker. Some Lumberjack turnovers and key three point shots by the Colonels whittled the SFA lead to the final 15-point margin, but the outcome was never in doubt.
The `Jacks forced 19 Nicholls turnovers, outscoring the Colonels 31-14 in points off those turnovers, while holding a15-5 edge in second chance points. SFA's depth also proved too much as the Lumberjack bench outscored Nicholls' reserves 43-14, thanks in large part to the career-high 20 from Geffard.
The victory at WRJ Coliseum marks the 10th-straight home victory for the `Jacks as SFA is now 44-1 in its last 45 games in Nacogdoches.
SFA returns to action Monday night when it hosts rival Lamar at the Coliseum. The Cardinals head into the game at 14-12 overall and 8-6 in SLC play as opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
