FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin’s Porsha Roberts has been named the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. The weekly honor is the second for Roberts this season and the third during her decorated SFA career. She was also selected as league player of the week on Dec. 22 earlier this season.
Roberts is coming off a huge week, helping the Ladyjacks earn quality road wins at Incarnate Word and at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The senior center poured in 32 points against the Islanders on Saturday to tie a career-high in a 74-62 victory. She made 12 of 21 shots from the field and went 8-for-10 from the free throw line in the game, which was aired on ESPN3.
Roberts also led the Ladyjacks in scoring on Thursday night in San Antonio against the Cardinals, scoring 20 points while shooting at an efficient 8-for-10 clip from the floor. SFA won the game 64-47. Overall on the week, Roberts averaged 26.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 2.5 assists, shot 64.5 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the line.
The Waco, Texas native currently owns the second best field goal percentage in the nation (63.0) behind only Notre Dame’s Brianna Turner (67.7). Roberts also ranks seventh in the NCAA with 4.6 offensive rebounds per game in 2014-15. She is averaging 18.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in 23 contests this season to lead SFA.
The Ladyjacks, who have won five straight, will next be in action on Thursday night inside William R. Johnson Coliseum against Lamar. The battle will start at 7:00 p.m. with the league’s best record on the line.
