QUICK NOTES
• For just the second time in the series history, Stephen F. Austin will face Incarnate Word on Thursday night to begin the Ladyjacks' longest conference road trip of the season. SFA beat UIW last season 79-59 in the only other meeting in the all-time series. Thursday's contest marks the first time the Ladyjacks will play the Cardinals in San Antonio.
• In the Ladyjacks' second game of the week, SFA faces a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi team that it already faced in 2014-15. The Saturday battle will be the first repeat opponent for SFA this year. On Jan. 31 in Nacogdoches, the Ladyjacks smothered the Islanders, forcing a season-high 27 turnovers en route to a 64-55 victory. SFA leads the all-time series 15-2, with 15 straight wins dating back to the 2004-05 season.
• The Ladyjacks are coming off two huge Southland Conference victories last week at Northwestern State and home against Houston Baptist. In both games things were tight late, but clutch shooting by seniors Tierany Henderson, Porsha Roberts and Brittney Matthew helped the Ladyjacks pull away in the final seconds. With 1:12 to play against the Lady Demons on Thursday, Henderson broke a 59-59 tie with a three-pointer and Matthew iced it with another triple with 30 seconds to play. On Saturday against HBU, Henderson all but iced the game again, drilling a shot from deep with 39 seconds to go to put SFA up 70-65.
• Tierany Henderson had two big games for the Ladyjacks last week. She set a career-high with 23 points and six three-pointers (6-for-10) at Northwestern State on Thursday while also securing 10 rebounds for a double-double. She followed up that monster performance with a 16-point effort on Saturday against HBU. Henderson has been red hot over the last four games, averaging 16.0 ppg while shooting 52.3 percent (23-for-44) from the floor, including 46.7 percent (14-for-30) from downtown.
• Tierany Henderson, Porsha Roberts and Taylor Ross each scored at least 16 points in both games last week for the Ladyjacks. Each player has scored in double figures in each of the last three contests overall.
• The Ladyjacks are 10-2 since beating Arizona on Dec. 20, 2014. Their two losses over the span have come by six points against McNeese State on Jan. 3 and one point against Sam Houston State on Jan. 24.
• When Taylor Ross scores 15 points or more in a game this season, the Ladyjacks are 11-1 overall. The lone loss came in the first game of the season against LA Tech. It was a career night for Ross, who poured in a career-high 26 points on 12-for-16 shooting while dishing out five assists. SFA lost 76-69.
• The Ladyjacks are 12-2 this season when leading with 5:00 to play in regulation. Since taking over as head coach prior to the 2010-11 season, Brandon Schneider's SFA teams are an impressive 73-6 when holding a lead with five minutes left in games. Last season, his team went a perfect 20-0 in those circumstances.
• Since moving into a reserve role on Jan. 8, Charisma Alexander has really played good basketball coming off the bench. She set career-highs in scoring and rebounding during the span, including a season-best nine rebounds on Saturday, and averaged 4.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg and shot 65.4 percent from the field (17-for-26).
• The Ladyjacks have forced 382 turnovers this year, making their opponents cough up the ball an average of 18.2 times per game. SFA leads the conference with a 0.97 assist to turnover ratio this season.
• Senior center Porsha Roberts is off to a hot start to SLC play. She is averaging a double-double in 10 league games (17.8 ppg, 10.0 rpg) while shooting 67 percent from the field and has accomplished the feat five times in 2015. Roberts ranks among the nation's best in several statistics, sitting second in field goal percentage (62.8), sixth in offensive rebounds per contest (4.7), 37th in blocks per game (2.4) and 42nd in double-doubles (9).
• The Ladyjacks have enjoyed a fair share of success in William R. Johnson Coliseum this season. SFA is 10-1 at home on the year, averaging 74.9 ppg while limiting opponents to 60.7 ppg. In seven of the last nine home games, opposing teams have failed to score more than 60 points. SFA has won 10 straight in Nac overall.
• The Ladyjacks will return home for two games next week after finishing up at Corpus Christi on Saturday this weekend. SFA will host Lamar on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. before entertaining Nicholls on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
