NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The opportunities beyond collegiate competition continued for the Stephen F. Austin women's soccer team as Ladyjack forward Chelsea Raymond signed a professional contract with KR - Reykjavik FC on Wednesday afternoon.
"Another great day for Chelsea and for our program," head coach Wally Crittenden said. "To go from never having any players become pros to having three in one week is tremendous. Chelsea has had a fantastic career here and has grown so much as a player and as a leader in the last two years. There is no doubt she will make an excellent professional player and be able to adapt to the tactical expectations at the next level.
"As I said Monday, these three Ladyjacks are just the beginning of what will become an annual occurrence due to the caliber of player we are now attracting, as well as the environment and teaching that takes place here. This will continue to inspire our returning players to better themselves and grow as competitors for the chance to have this kind of opportunity once they are done playing. As our University Marketing arm confirmed with our own custom graphic yesterday - Ladyjacks DO Make Great Professional Soccer Players."
Raymond joins Megan Dunnigan and Morgan Glick, who signed with IA Akranes FC on Monday, with her signing to play for KR - Reykjavik FC, another professional team in Iceland that season runs from May to September.
The Ladyjacks have now had three to sign professional contracts under the guidance of Crittenden, all firsts for program.
Raymond, a native of Irving, Texas, was a four-time first team All-Southland Conference selection. In 2014, she led the conference in shots, tied for second in game-winning goals (4), third in points (23) and tied for fourth in goals (9) and fifth in assists (5). Her performance on the pitch also garnered her SLC All-Tournament and second team NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's All-Central Region honors as a senior.
Raymond is one of the most prolific offensive players to come through SFA, finishing her Ladyjack career as the program's all-time record holder in points (115), goals (49) and shots (309).
