NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin sophomore defensive back Marlon Walls has been named a first team Academic All-District selection today by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Walls, an engineering physics major who holds a 4.00 GPA, has seen significant playing time this season, registering 18 total tackles, including 14 solo stops. He is tied for the team lead with two interceptions, registering his first career pick off TCU’s Trevone Boykin, followed by a 13-yard pick-six to cap the 55-21 victory over Incarnate Word last Saturday.
The Pearland native also has three pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery as Walls has played in all eight games for the Lumberjacks this season with four starts. For his career, Walls has posted 23 total tackles with 18 unassisted.
Walls is one of six Southland Conference players named to their respective Academic All-District teams, joined by Central Arkansas offensive lineman Kyle Stouffer, Nicholls linebacker Geoffrey Hebert, Sam Houston State wide receiver Josh Reynolds and Incarnate Word defensive back Daryl Irby and linebacker Padyn Giebler.
Walls was one of 24 players selected to the District 7 team, which includes Division I schools in the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. He now becomes eligible for the national vote, attempting to become an Academic All-American.
Walls and the rest of the Lumberjacks head to Conway, Arkansas, for a showdown with Central Arkansas Saturday, November 7th. The game against the Bears will be broadcast on the American Sports Network, kicking off at 2:30 p.m.
