HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Stephen F. Austin posted its best round of the tournament Tuesday, shooting an 18-over 302 over the final round of the 2015 SHSU Bearkat Women’s Invitational. The Ladyjacks moved up one spot, tying for seventh overall with a 66-over 918, for its second-straight top-10 finish.
Entering the day in eighth-place, the Ladyjacks were paced by a 2-over 73 from Jessie White as the junior tied for eighth overall with an 8-over 221. It is the sixth top-10 finish of White’s career, and the fifth in her last seven tournaments, as she finishes one stroke off the SFA program record for lowest 54-hole tournament score.
Sophomore Jamee Jorgensen finished second on the SFA scorecard, tying for 31st overall with a 19-over 232, including a 6-over 77 in round three. Senior Sydney Reed, junior Ann Holcomb and sophomore Erica Lautensack finished tied for third among the Ladyjacks with a 23-over 236, led by Lautensack’s 3-over 74 over the final round. Junior Courtney Ford tied for 35th with a 21-over 234 competing as an individual.
SFA shaved seven shots off its second-round 309, which was enough to pull even with McNeese State to tie for seventh among the 15-team field. The Ladyjacks were four shots back of host Sam Houston State (62-over 914) and seven shots back of A&M-Corpus Christi (59-over 911), which finished fifth overall.
There was a strong showing from the Southland Conference across the board as Houston Baptist captured the team title with a 30-over 882, besting second-place Central Arkansas (50-over 902) by one stroke. Lamar (51-over 903) placed third with Souther Mississippi (55-over 907) and A&M-Corpus Christi rounding out the top five.
SFA will be back in action for its third tournament in as many weeks next week as the Ladyjacks look to defend their team title at the 2015 UIW Women’s Invitational in San Antonio. SFA won the event in 2014, the first team title in program history, as the Ladyjacks will look to make it two straight, competing on October 12-13.
