NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Fresh off a scintillating performance in the 90th Battle of the Piney Woods, Stephen F. Austin freshman running back Loren Easly was selected as the STATS LLC FCS Freshman of the Week as announced by the agency on Monday afternoon.
Easly had a breakthrough game in his hometown of Houston, rushing for a career-best 213 yards against No. 12-ranked Sam Houston State at NRG Stadium. Easly broke off an 80-yard touchdown run for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 31-28, which is tied for the fourth-longest run in SFA program history. He also became the first SFA player to rush for over 200 yards since Gus Johnson in 2014, doing it in just his fourth game as a Lumberjack. Easly averaged 10.1 yards per rush on the day, helping SFA to a season-high 336 rushing yards against the Bearkats. Although Easly’s efforts were exemplary, SFA dropped a 34-28 to the Bearkats in the annual rivalry bout between the two institutions.
Easly and the rest of his SFA compatriots will hit the turf of Homer Bryce Stadium for the first time in the month of October at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon to engage in a Southland Conference gridiron clash with Nicholls State.
