NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Stephen F. Austin jumped five spots in the team standings, sitting seventh overall at the 2015 Fairleigh Dickinson New Jersey Jamboree. The Ladyjacks went 3-2 on the day, sitting at 5-5 overall over the two days of traditional team matches.
Individually, sophomore Stephanie Schwartz made a run in day two, sitting 10th among the individual leaders with a 207.4 average over her 10 matches. Junior Paige Kraushaar finished 36th overall with a 195.2 average, marking the two Ladyjacks among the individual top-50.
After posting a 2-3 record over day one, SFA was looking to make some noise on day two but stumbled out of the gate, narrowly falling to Kutztown in a 1,026-1,018 slugfest. Schwartz led the way with a 236 with sophomore Morgan Reising tallying a 214 as Kraushaar and junior Kiara Grant both posted a 191, but it wasn’t enough as the Ladyjacks fell eight pins short of the win.
SFA recovered in match two with a 966-917 win over Delaware State, led by Kraushaar’s 210. Reising and Schwartz also eclipsed the 200-pin plateau, bowling a 204 and 201, respectively, with freshman Paige Beeney just missing the mark with a 199.
The Ladyjacks evened their record at 4-4 with a 1,076-950 victory over Franklin Pierce – the fifth-best team score of the afternoon. Four of SFA’s five bowlers surpassed 200 pins, led by a tournament-high 263 from Schwartz. Beeny and Kraushaar each bowled a 218 with freshman Dakotah Hazelwood finishing with a 215.
SFA carried that momentum into the fourth match of the day and logged a convincing 982-740 win over St. Peter’s. Beeney was the high bowler for SFA with a 234, followed by Kraushaar’s 216 with Hazelwood and Schwartz each tallying a 183.
The final match of the day pitted SFA against Wisconsin-Whitewaters as the Ladyjacks came up short against the War Hawks, dropping a 991-927 decision. Kraushaar was the only Ladyjack to surpass 200 pins, bowling a 212, with Hazelwood posting a 193 and senior Danielle Lynn rolling a 192.
SFA was able to move up five spots over day two, jumping from 12th-place to seventh, but the Ladyjacks fell one spot shy of qualifying for the championship bracket, which will include the top six teams. SFA will look to close out the FDU New Jersey Jamboree on a high note, competing in three best-of-seven baker matches Sunday morning.
