NOTES
• The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team will look to bounce back from a tough road defeat against McNeese State when they host Southeastern Louisiana on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. in William R. Johnson Coliseum. The game will serve as the front end of a men's/women's doubleheader as the Lumberjacks will also collide with the Lions following the women's contest.
• Monday night's home conference opener will be the 38th meeting in the all-time series between SFA and Southeastern. The Ladyjacks hold a commanding 32-5 advantage overall, including a 92-79 victory on the road last season on March 1. SFA has won 12 straight in the series dating back to a 62-60 loss to SLU at home in the 2004-05 season.
• Senior center Porsha Roberts has been lights out against the Lady Lions in her SFA career. In four meetings with SLU, Roberts averages 20.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg and has recorded nine blocks. Most impressive of all, the Waco native owns a 91.7 percent field goal percentage, making 33 of 36 shots attempted in the series.
• The Ladyjacks are coming off a heartbreaking defeat in Lake Charles, La. where they were stunned by McNeese State on Saturday afternoon, 73-67. SFA experienced season-low shooting performances from the free throw line (40.9 percent - 9-for-22) and beyond the arc (12.5 percent - 2-for-16) while the Cowgirls shot 88 percent (22-for-25) from the charity stripe to ice the game. The Ladyjacks nearly overcame a 14-point second half deficit, chipping to within one point with 4:52 to play and later two points with 40 ticks on the clock, but never led in the second half. SFA led for only eight seconds in the entire game - the second shortest amount of time in a game this season (never led UC Riverside on Nov. 28).
• Porsha Roberts did all she could to help her team start the SLC season 1-0 on Saturday against McNeese. She scored 26 points, hauled in 12 rebounds (including eight off the offensive glass), swatted five shots and shot at an efficient 11-for-17 clip from the field. She scored 16 points in the second half alone.
• Southeastern Louisiana (4-7), picked to finish 11th in the SLC preseason polls, has played a tough non-conference schedule with losses at Minnesota, Auburn, Mississippi State, LSU and Ole Miss this season. Most recently on Dec. 29, the Lady Lions took Ole Miss to overtime where they lost 79-71.
• The Lady Lions are led by senior guards Symone Miller and Elizabeth Styles and junior forward Nanna Pool, a preseason All-SLC selection. Miller leads the team with 13.7 ppg, Styles ranks first in the SLC and 20th in the nation with 5.9 apg and Pool is averaging a double-double (12.9 ppg, 10.5 rpg) this season.
