NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head coach Clint Conque announced the addition of two more transfers to the Lumberjack football team. Redshirt freshman quarterback Jake Gnacinski and sophomore defensive tackle Anthony Lee have joined the team and are participating in offseason workouts.
"We're very excited about the additions of Jake and Anthony to our roster as they fill both immediate and future needs," Conque said. "They are enrolled in class and on campus, working with our returning players in offseason workouts and are both physical athletic players. We anticipate each of them to compete from the onset for significant playing time and really enjoy the fact that each of them have at least three years of eligibility remaining."
Gnacinski is a 6-2, 220-pound quarterback who spend one season at Army before joining the Lumberjacks. A dual threat quarterback from Keller Fossil Ridge, Gnacinski is a two-time all-district selection that helped lead the Panthers advance to the regional finals in 2013 behind a 9-4 record.
Gnacinski had a stellar senior season for Fossil Ridge, throwing for 2,825 yards and 29 touchdowns while rushing for 866 yards and finding the endzone 13 times. For his prep career, Gnacinski threw for nearly 5,000 yards and rushed for 1,400 more, accounting for 61 touchdowns for the Panthers.
Lee is a 6-1, 285-pound defensive tackle who spent the past two seasons at UT-San Antonio. After redshirting in 2013, Lee saw action in five games for the Roadrunners in 2014 as a hamstring injury limited his reps.
Lee was a first team all-district selection at Ford Bend Marshall High School, helping lead the Buffaloes to a 13-1 record as a senior in 2012. He helped guide Marshall to the state quarterfinals, finishing with 65 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and seven sacks on the season.
The duo brings the number of transfer players to six as coach Conque and his staff begin preparations for the 2015 spring season. Lee adds to a deep defensive unit, joining defensive tackle Darrell Vanerson, linebacker Price Miller and defensive backs Zack Starnes and Tre Rosser. Gnacinski is the first offensive transfer to be added to the roster.
Coach Conque and the SFA staff remains hard at work bringing in the newest class of Lumberjacks, leading up to Signing Day on Wednesday, February 4th. Stay tuned to SFAJacks.com and @SFA_Football for all the latest information of Lumberjack Signing Day 2015.
